Volunteers play a huge role in the success of Fostoria Habitat. They help with everything from building and repairing homes, to landscaping, or even community outreach.
Most positions require no experience, just a willingness to show up and learn! We have fun and meaningful opportunities year-round.
We have one-time opportunities for those with a busy schedule and regular opportunities for volunteers who would like to make a commitment.
We also love volunteer groups! Pull together your friends, family or coworkers and have fun making a difference.
Volunteers are at the heart of Habitat’s work. Because of our volunteers, whole neighborhoods improve and completely transform. Through this transformation, families achieve the strength, stability, and independence they need to build a better life.
We build and repair homes throughout the year, and we want your help – whatever your skill level is!
As a volunteer with our Construction or Home Repair teams, you will work with skilled Habitat staff, future Habitat homeowners, and Fostoria area homeowners on a variety of home building and home repair projects. We provide all of the training and tools you need for the job.
Habitat welcomes volunteers for a mutually beneficial experience. If swinging a hammer isn’t your style, we welcome your help on committees, with administrative work at our office, as a photographer, and more.

Build site activities include everything it takes to build a home from start to finish. Some typical volunteer activities include: framing, siding, painting, roofing, laying flooring, hanging doors or windows, trim work, finishing, landscaping and cleaning. Each task is critical to a finished home and a healthier, more stable family. The specific activity you will be working on is difficult to predict more than a few days in advance. Your flexibility and enthusiasm for whatever activity you’ll be working on day-of are most appreciated.
You must be at least 16 years of age to volunteer on our build site. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a chaperone with a ratio of at least 1 chaperone for every 4 youths. All chaperones must be at least 21 years of age.
If you are an individual or have a small group (less than 5 volunteers), you can register by submitting our Volunteer Intake Form. If you are interested in bringing a larger group out, please email info@fostoriahabitat.org and we will be in touch.
Volunteer shifts are a minimum of one hour. There is no “frequency” commitment, however. You can come out as little or as often as you’d like, as long as there is availability.
All build days are first come, first served. If your first pick is already full, please choose another day that works for you and your schedule. Additionally, sometimes things happen and people have to cancel their volunteer shifts, so check back often!
Having accurate volunteer numbers is critical for the progress of our homes and for the planning of our construction leadership. You can cancel your shift by emailing info@fostoriahabitat.org. If you do not show up for your volunteer day or do not notify us of your cancellation, you may forfeit your right to volunteer with us in the future.
Individual volunteers are not required to fundraise or donate, but we encourage and appreciate donations for materials.
We welcome court-ordered volunteers; however, you cannot volunteer with Habitat if your ticket is related to theft, violence, or crimes of an inappropriate nature.
Court-ordered volunteers must be at least 16, and volunteers under 18 must have a parent sign a minor waiver form.
All individuals seeking to work court-ordered community service must submit required paperwork prior to serving any community service hours. All individuals working community services must complete and sign a volunteer waiver.
